THE RESTORATION PROJECT
Preserving the Legcacy
Buregården’s future depends on urgent structural intervention. The house is sinking because of unstable blue clay beneath the building, and the movement has already caused visible damage. The restoration project is designed to stabilize the structure, protect the house’s historic fabric, conserve the royal-historical mural, and prepare Buregården for long-term life as a place of gathering and welcome.

The Challenge
There are a couple compounding issues that are dramatically impacting the structural stability of Buregården. The primary challenge is that the foundation is beginning to fail because the house is built on blue clay, and is failing. Compounding this is the house's close location to the train station, which Because of these unstable conditions beneath the house and the weight and complexity of the masonry and fireplace structure, the building cannot simply be lifted in a conventional way. Stabilization requires excavation, removal of unstable material, structural reinforcement, and carefully phased restoration work.

The Vision
This is not a cosmetic renovation. It is the rescue and renewal of a protected historic house whose significance is architectural, historical, artistic, and communal. The aim is not only to preserve the building, but to release it into its next chapter of service and public meaning. This includes not only stabilizing the foundation, but also establishing the garden cafe, restoring the Royal Mural and additional historic paintings in the basement, and installing a pottery and creative arts place for the community.
KEY ELEMENTS OF THE RESTORATION
The Three Phase Plan Includes:
RETROFIT & REPAIR
As the house is stabilized, important interior repairs will also need to take place. This includes addressing cracks in the walls, adjusting doors affected by movement, and strengthening the building in ways that preserve its historic integrity while making it functional for the future.

RESTORATION & PAINTING
This part of the project brings together two visible acts of renewal: the conservation of the royal mural in the basement and the painting of the house’s exterior. Together, these works will preserve both the artistic and architectural beauty of Buregården, honoring its historic significance while helping present the house with dignity, care, and renewed life for the future.
STABILIZING THE FOUNDATION
The foundation is the most urgent part of the project. This phase includes removing unstable material beneath the house, reinforcing the structure with steel beams, and restoring the basement so that Buregården can be protected for generations to come and prepared for future heritage, arts, and gathering use.

ROOF RENOVATION
The roof is leaking and needs to be completely replaced. All sheet metal on the back side must be removed and renewed. Beneath it, a new roofing membrane is required, and due to the building’s age and previous poor maintenance, the underlying roof timber also needs to be replaced. Which makes the structural repairs even more urgent.
HISTORIC HEARTH
Buregården’s distinctive architectural features are part of what make the house so memorable and worth preserving. From its unusual fireplace structure to the warmth and atmosphere that define its future, this part of the project reflects both the historic character of the house and its calling as a place of hospitality.

DEVELOPING COMMUNITY SPACES
Buregården is being restored as a place of welcome, gathering, and shared life. Its rooms and garden will support prayer, fika, meals, fellowship, and creative workshops, including a garden gathering space, a café, and a pottery and arts area.
